The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has called for unity among Igbos as the only panacea for them to achieve common purpose in Nigeria. Obi was speaking yesterday during his opening speech shortly after the 2016 World Igbo Congress taking place in New York was declared open.
Obi who acknowledged difficult times in Nigeria occasioned by recession, as has been officially declared, said that it was a time for the Igbos to look inwards and realize that Igbo land would be developed by Igbos willing to make sacrifices for others without looking for personal gains.
Speaking on the same vein, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, while delivering the key address, called for love and unity among Igbos.
The Congress was attended by other prominent Igbos, both from Nigeria and those living in the USA.
The highlight of this years's congress was the bestowment of award on Mr. Peter Obi for his insightful leadership, humility in public service and relentless investment in Igbo Unity.
Speaking during the event, The Chairman of the World Igbo Congress, Mr. Joe Eto said that the award was a way of presenting Obi as a model for other leaders to emulate in all ramifications, especially his humility and selfless service to the people as well as his keen understanding of the demands of leadership.
