Do you still remember him?
This is Mokwugwo Okoye, one of the greatest Nationalists that this Country Nigeria ever produced. His role towards decolonization of this entity called Nigeria is legendary. A Great Zikist, who paid his dues for the emancipation of this country.
How far has this country treated him? Even from First Republic to the Military era, he was sideline because of his principled lifestyle. The man, late Gani Fawehimmi said he was impressed with his over all exploit during the Colonial era despite his young age.
This is a man, I regarded as the unsung hero of Nigeria Independence Struggle. Whereas the Corrupt Politicians like Awo, Akintola , Adedibu , all have one monument or the other named after them, this illustrious son seems to have been forgotten.
On his death in 1998, New York Time dedicate a column of its newspaper to talk about the man, his principles and what he stood for. It was only then that Yoruba dominated Newspapers flood news of his death.
