APC, OPC differ on Biafra Mega Protest in Lagos

The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the leadership of Yoruba Militant group, the Odua Peoples Congress(OPC) have expressed different views on the proposed use of Lagos as a place for the Biafra Mega Protest .

The Protest which is been organized by Biafra self determination group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is slated for December 16 and 17, according to statement made available to our reporters.
Reacting to the proposed rally by members of IPOB, the Lagos state APC said it will be stupid for any group to hide under the aegis of protest to compromise the security of the state.
Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, warned that the APC will not watch and allow politically sponsored thugs under the guise of Pro-Biafran protesters or any group whatsoever to ‘achieve dark political aims’.“As a party that governs Lagos, it will be derelict of us to watch a group of politically-sponsored hoodlums tamper with the tight security system that has been effortlessly put in place by the state government to combat increasing crime rates in the state,” Lagos APC said.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Odua People Congress (OPC) loyal to Mr. Gani Adams has okay the protest, as long as such protest was peaceful and security of lives and property was assured and monitored by security agents.
According to OPC's Director of Media and publicity, Yinka Oguntimehin " The Igbos have a population of over 35 Million spread all over the world, some of them have stayed in lagos and indeed south west for over 40 yeas. Its not the purview of OPC to deny such people their right to determine their future and membership of the country as contained in the United Nation Self Determination charter of 14 December 1960.
While the Publicity Secretary of APC, Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, an Igbo linked the proposed protest to politics as he emphasis that APC Lagos will not allow the group whom he termed as hoodlums sponsored by politician who failed last general election to unleash mayhem on lagosians, the OPC Spokesman was sympathetic to the cause of the Biafran agitators . "The position of OPC on self determination is clear as we are in support of true federalism and statism, but we are not in anyway against the choice of Igbos to self determination"
