Rivers State government yesterday honored a former head of state Yakubu Gowon by renaming the Port Harcourt liberation stadium and Old Aba Rd after him citing his role in the creation of Rivers state.
This is another blow on the Biafran struggle structured by gov Wike and his kinsmen just to renew allegiance to the north for political gains and further frustrate the existing support from the people.
Just to remind you that Rivers state was created by Gowon at the eve of the Biafran war just to create disharmony from the Eastern minority and also to block the Igbos from ocean access.
The hasty creation of rivers state by Gowon in 1967 was the worst economic hit against Ndigbo..Igbo oil producing communities where ceded inorder to strangle them economically. Communities like Egbema, ndoni, etche,Omuma,Obigbo and Afam was clandestinely ceded to the Rivers state due to the abundance of Hydrocarbons .
My questions is why should wike decides to honour Yakubu Gowon at this point in time when the country is facing series of problems and agitations?
Why didn't the Rivers govt consider the Igbos who suffered day and night to develop Igweocha( Port Harcourt) for honours?
This continued betrayal by our neighbours must stop.
